Most wind farms have an estimated operational lifespan of 20+ years if they are regularly maintained. A programme of preventive maintenance, focusing on critical areas such as grid connection is generally much more cost effective than reacting to problems when they occur.
West Durham Wind Farm, is a twelve-turbine site generating up to 24 MW of clean energy and benefiting the local area through a community fund. Frequency of maintenance depends, in part, on where the wind farm is located and the conditions experienced. At West Durham Wind Farm Enspec Field Engineers deliver annual planned maintenance visits to help ensure grid connection reliability and optimum performance.
A long-term maintenance programme also helps with budgeting and expenditure planning as well as maintaining the productive lifespan of the site.
